Anthony was first elected as MP for Totnes and South Devon in 2019. The son of an officer in the Royal Green Jackets, Anthony is a former shipbroker; first in Singapore and then London and Lagos, Nigeria.

Bookended by working for former Foreign Secretary, Lord Hague; first in Parliament during the coalition government and then as a senior advisor on the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) and closing the UK’s domestic ivory market.

Anthony subsequently served as a special advisor to the Secretary of State for Wales, specialising in trade policy, before being elected to Parliament.

He has served as a member of the International Trade Committee and its successor, the Business and Trade Committee, since November 2020. He served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon John Glen MP, between October 2022 and November 2023.

Anthony’s main interests in Parliament include trade, foreign affairs, defence, international development (he is the current Chair of the Conservative Friends of International Development and an Ambassador of the HALO Trust), fishing, farming and housing.

Anthony led successful campaigns during the pandemic to reduce VAT to 5% for the tourism and hospitality sector and to close the second homes business rates loophole. He founded and is currently Honorary President of the National Independent Lifeboat Association.

Anthony also authored a report for the Centre for Policy Studies, Looking East: The Case for UK Membership of CPTPP, published in January 2022.

Outside of Westminster, Anthony is a keen walker, wild swimmer and an amateur historian.
